Mitchell Hi-Hat

A Mitchell Hi-Hat (also known as a Moy Hi-Hat ) is a specialised camera support tool to mount a camera at an extremely low angle. It serves as a “mini tripod” for heavy-duty camera systems that use a Moy flat-base mounting standard.

  • Ultra-Low Angles: It allows a camera head to sit just inches above the ground, providing stability for low-level filming that standard tripods cannot achieve.
  • Heavy Duty Support: Designed to handle high-capacity cinema rigs, such as those using OConnor 2575 fluid heads.
  • Versatile Mounting: It can be placed directly on the floor, bolted to a wooden “octopus” board for stability with sandbags, or strapped to ladders and vehicle rigs.
  • Rigging Compatibility: Commonly used in combination with sliders, doorway dollies, and various professional grip equipment.
