Tribe7 Blackwing7 X-Tuned Primes
The Tribe7 Blackwing7 X-Tuned Primes are the most “expressive” and extreme variant in the Blackwing7 lineup, designed for a dreamy, ethereal aesthetic. Co-founded by Oscar-nominated cinematographer Bradford Young and technologist Neil Fanthom, these lenses use “controlled distortion” to mimic the character of vintage optics from the 1930s–1960s.
- Lowest Contrast: Features the lowest contrast in the entire range due to selective edge-uncoating.
- Extreme Halation: Offers further exaggerated edge halation compared to the S (Straight) and T (Transient) variants.
- Rainbow Flare: Known for a signature “lenticular rainbow” flare effect, especially when used wide open.
- Perceived Shallow Depth of Field: Minor spherical aberration and focal plane curvature create the illusion of a shallower depth of field than the actual T-stop
